Six word Friday- Seconds

"Tick, tick, tick" as I lay
wide awake at three o'clock a.m.
counting seconds until I drift again.
They are always moving, these seconds,
one after another after yet another.
Some go by unnoticed by me,
and others I find myself amazed
at the magic in this world.
Even when times are so hard,
there is still so much beauty.
My wish for myself and others
that not a second goes by
without knowing beauty and love,
even when other feelings are present,
may those still be the underlying.

I love the ending of your poem. A friend and I were discussing how our hearts felt last night. I told him that there was a part of my heart that is lonely but that there was so much more joy to be felt that the dominant feeling was one of happiness, not sadness. May you feel the beauty and love strongly as you embark on your new journey!

Tessa, I wish you joy and beauty always. These are hard times for you-things will get better!

As to the first few lines…I’ve been reading “Restful insomnia : how to get the benefits of sleep even when you can't” by Sondra Kornblatt this week, and weirdly, am finding that just reading about relaxing has resulting in me sleeping better at night. And I haven’t even done the actual exercises yet. Last night, I slept soundly all the way from 9:45 to 3:45 (when the dog woke me up, asking to be let out) and immediately fell back asleep again until the alarm went off. Not bad for a chronic insomiac!

the seconds that move entice me. those are the ones that linger
in my head, in my heart.

I'm a firm believer in focusing on the magic and the beauty. If we can hold onto those, the rest will work itself out.
